Silent City 2 – Miniature wall sculpture

Sold

This miniature cityscape, Silent City 2, is the second in this series. The highrise buildings loom silently, in shadow, despite the glow of moonlight reflected by the river.

This miniature cityscape, a freestanding 7x6x2cm wall sculpture, is called Silent City 2. I created it on a white block of faux marble, with rusted cylinder ‘buildings’, a curled piece of metal ‘river’, and a small slug ‘moon’. I found all the bits and pieces on the streets of Melbourne during my daily walks.

My name is Nancy D Lane. I am a found object assemblage artist and jewellery designer working under the name NancyDee Sculptures. I create wall sculptures, 3D sculptures and brooches from the metal, wood, tiles and plastic that I find on the streets. My art is inspired by a strong interest in sustainability through repurposing and upcycling.

Many of my works feature the Melbourne skyline, especially at sunrise and sunset. Often I try to incorporate ‘natural features’. A bent nail may suggest a meandering river. Rusted sheet metal may be transformed into a cloud. A broken tile may become a mountain.

My more abstract works are stimulated by the found objects themselves, which I often place in juxtaposition. At other times, I emphasise their rusted, scratched or variegated surfaces.

My hope is that my works will make you smile. At the same time, may they remind you of the 5Rs to help our planet: refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle.
