I created this wall sculpture, called Cityscape on the Edge 5: Rolling River, for the exhibition Rivers Run Free. The exhibition was at the Dirty Dozen in February 2020. Several of the other River Studios artists participated as well. To read more about my involvement in the Rivers Run Free exhibition, see my blog post. You can also read about the exhibition more generally in the Creative Spaces blog post.
I mounted this artwork on thin ply, a black piece of V-shaped metal and a flat metal sheet. The primary backing is a small varnished board. Other elements include a broken black tile ‘mountain’, a rusted bent rod ‘river’ and a rusted metal ‘sun’. The city ‘buildings’ are all various types and sizes of metal cylinders. Of course, I found all these bits and pieces on the streets of Melbourne. Several were near my studio along the Maribyrnong River.
