Teeny Tiny City 2 – Miniature handmade brooch

$35.00

At only 3cm in diameter, Teeny Tiny City 2 is one of the smallest brooches I’ve ever made! It is the second in my Teeny Tiny City series, which will be limited to 12 in total. I have now completed the fifth, so seven more to go, all dependent on my finding lots of teeny tiny bits and bobs on the streets to convert into ‘buildings’!

I created this miniature cityscape brooch mounted on a round white piece of tile with a flat rusted band of metal ‘river’ and cylindrical rusted ‘buildings’. All of these bits and bobs I found on the streets of Melbourne. I normally create larger wall sculptures and 3D sculptures from the wood, metal, tiles and plastic I find, but I also like to ‘think small’.

Through Instagram I had met handmade jewellery designer Lynn Powers from New Orleans. She regularly encouraged me to try something ‘jewellery sized’, but I never had. Then I saw that the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria was holding its annual Australian National Brooch Show.

I hunted through my collection of trash looking for smooth backing pieces and tiny pieces of metal. I bought a packet of brooch clips, then started experimenting.

Making brooches is great fun. My pieces have been on display at several of the Australian National Brooch Shows. They are currently available from Far Fetched Designs in Seddon, Artocracy in Brunswick and the Louis Joel Gallery shop in Altona.
