Nailed It 1 – Wall sculpture

$80.00

Nailed it! Yes, pun intended. This is a very eco-friendly sculptural work I created in 2017. Not only does it use all recycled materials, but by picking up all those nails off the streets, I saved 26 tyres from being punctured.

This is a small 19x16x3cm wall sculpture called Nailed It 1. I made in 2017 at my home studio, before I became an artist-in-residence at River Studios. It is made from black laminate, nails and an unidentified metal cap of some sort. All of these items I picked up from the streets of Melbourne during my daily walks.

Although I created some representational works that year, the majority were more abstract or geometrical. They often juxtaposed different types of found objects, such as nuts and bobby pins, or cream chargers and hair clips.

My palette during that time was essentially silver-coloured, rust-coloured, wood grain and black, so I was fascinated with the subtle range of variations in scratches, patina and sheen of the objects I found. Many of the metal pieces had turned a fine shade of rust from months or years on the street before I ‘rescued’ them. A few of the nails in this piece fall into the ‘artistically rusted’ category.

This 2017 work, including stand, is available for purchase online. It was previously exhibited in ‘Cityscapes from City Streets’ at the Melbourne City Library in January 2018.
