Christmas Tyre Balance Tree 6 – Wall sculpture

$30.00

I love making unusual Christmas trees from the trash I find on Melbourne’s streets. Assembling them is harder than it looks, especially finding tyre balance weights in descending sizes. There are a lot more small ones, broken ones and misshapen ones on the road than there are useable ones. I hope you enjoy the results of my many street foraging walks.

I created this 10x10cm wall sculpture called Christmas Tyre Balance Tree 6 from a red tile, tyre balance weights and a gold star. I found all the bits and pieces on the streets of Melbourne during my daily walks. It comes with metal stand to display on a book shelf or mantelpiece.

Found object assemblage sculptor

My name is Nancy D Lane. I am a found object assemblage artist and jewellery designer working under the name NancyDee Sculptures. I create wall sculptures, 3D sculptures and brooches from the metal, wood, tiles and plastic that I pick up off the streets.

My inspiration

Many of my works are inspired by the Melbourne skyline, especially at sunrise and sunset. Often I try to incorporate ‘natural features’. A bent nail suggests a meandering river. Rusted sheet metal transforms into a cloud. A broken tile becomes a mountain.

My more abstract works are stimulated by the found objects themselves, which I often place in juxtaposition. At other times, I emphasise their rusted, scratched or variegated surfaces.

May yours be a sustainable Christmas

My art is inspired by a strong interest in sustainability through repurposing and upcycling. Too many of our Christmas decorations are transient, purchased a few weeks before the holiday and discarded a few weeks later.

My hope is that this work finds a more permanent home and that every year, it makes you smile. At the same time, I hope it also reminds you of the 5Rs to help our planet: refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle.my daily walks.
